There is no need to go out and buy fancy Art pencils. Just pick up a set of good ol' "Number 2's". You'll be surprised the amount of technical variety you can achieve just with a regular pencil.
A Journal/Sketchbook. 9x11"or 8.5x11" Hard cover Spiral Bound
This is a necessity for this class. We will be experiencing methods of art creation inside the Journals as well as exploring a variety of techniques and artistic problems. The Journal/Sketchbook is a place for you to "stretch" your creative mind while developing some cool projects. The journal should have white paper only, no lined paper.
If you get a handout, keep the handout. All handouts are given to you as a way to reinforce techniques, vocabulary and concepts. They also come in handy when your are studying for an assessment.
A set of Colored Pencils
Colored Pencils are an invaluable tool to artists, just as a calculator may be in Math. I recommend purchasing Prismacolor brand because of their quality and intensity. Other brands such as Reeves or Prang will do well too, just make sure they are regular colored pencils. You do not need "Watercolor" pencils. *Check the Sunday circular for coupons for stores like AC Moore, Michaels, Office Depot and Staples.*
Prismacolor Colorless Blender
This is a wonderful tool for blending colored pencils like water blends paint. *This is only a recommended tool, it is not required.*
An open mind and willingness to learn.
Art is about experiencing life and all the joys and hardships it brings. Being a creative person simply lies in taking your life experiences and expressing what you've learned from them for others to see and relate to. In many cases, art can be just for you. A way for you to develop your seeing eye and how you relate to the world.
