Thursday: Intro to course, seating arrangements, Handout Class Contract and Contact information homework. Friday: Demonstrate Portfolio construction. Monday: Demonstrate Paste Paper techniques for beginning Journal cover sheet. Students complete steps in Paste Paper design. Continue work on folder. Tuesday/Friday: Demonstrate Paste Paper Journal cover procedure. Students work to wrap covers with paste paper. Work to finish Folder design and Decoration. Watch The Dot video. Focus on Creative Process while continuing to develop creative spatial interpretation on Student Portfolios. Wednesday thru Friday: Students begin Baseline Assessment- Drawing of Still Life. This will be an exercise for me to see at which level of skill you are bringing with you based on prior art experience. This is an opportunity to re-acquaint yourself with observational drawing. Exploring objects in a space, drawing techniques, shading and perspective.

Monday: Introduce artist Bio for Keith Haring, review key points of the video. Tuesday: Review skateboard design concepts. Introduce project parameters from rubric discussion. Wednesday: Handout Skateboard rubric, review requirements for completing roughs. Demonstrate outlining and colored pencil techniques. Demonstrate techniques for using Haring characters for beginning design based on theme. Sketch book #5 Due today.
Students work on developing Skateboard roughs based on their selection of 2 themes. Monday: Students work to complete roughs. Any work not completed in class should be completed for homework. Tuesday: Demonstrate techniques for transferring image to final. Students begin transfer process.

Monday: Color Wheel Notes Students watch Colored Pencil Exercise demonstration video and work to complete exercise. Tuesday/Friday: Finish up any of Colored Pencil Exercise sections. Friday: Turn in Sketchbook #4 Watch demonstration video for Complementary Color section of Colored Pencil Masterpiece. Demonstrating abilities in using gradients with Warm, Cool, and Complementary color schemes. Students begin working on this section of Masterpiece.

Monday & Tuesday: Review Demo on "Reverse" drawing. Demonstration includes setup of drawing 8x10" grid as well as contour outline tracing of Bones from photo reference onto transparency. Wednesday: Demonstrate taking contour line drawing and transferring information onto grid. Students will continue tracing contours onto transparency and begin drawing info onto grid. Thursday: Students will continue drawing contour line information onto grid to accurately represent bones. Friday: Demonstrate charcoal techniques for covering drawing and process of "subtractive" drawing in highlights of bones based on using an eraser. Demonstrate techniques of accenting values with other charcoal media.

Tuesday Quiz on Line and Value Notes. Students should look over the vocabulary information on notes sheets. Study definitions for 3 types of line, Contour, Structural and Expressive. Students should be able to recognize these types of line as well. Value notes include definitions and techniques discussed on Value notes handout. These include recognizing line groups used to create values. Complete Value Puzzle assignment. Tuesday/Wednesday: Today we will be introduced to Mannequin proportions. Using units of measure and blocking techniques to represent accurate proportions of the Mannequin forms. Thursday: Students will begin work on the Final Mannequin. Developing their skills practiced aerlier to accurately represent the posed Mannequin. Friday: Students will continue work on their Mannequin final. Begin developing smooth directional shading to show accuracy in tones, edges of separation and contrast with background.
WEEK OF february 18TH- March 2.
Monday: We will be taking notes on Line. This will introduce you to the most basic element of art by discussing line styles, variations of and 3 types of Line that artists can use to draw a variety of subjects. Tuesday: We will be exploring line styles and design through the introduction of the Zentangle exercise. We will continue the process of adding shaded areas to the Zentangle to show depth and contrast. Students will be adding flat solid color in specific negative space areas to reveal added depth and dimension. Thursday/Friday: Students will be turning in Sketchbook Assignment #1. In class today, we will be working to complete our Zentangle assignment.

Tuesday: Demonstration on Cropping procedure for Skull-N-Wash bones. Finish Charcoal Bones drawing. Students turn work in to the "2 be sprayed folder". Wednesday: Color Wheel/Color Theory into. Students will take notes on aspects of how color affects our everyday lives. Thursday: Demonstration on Colored Pencil Techniques. Students work on Colored Pencil Exercise. Monday-Friday Students work on continuing to develop techniques for Monochromatic Self Portrait. Use Video Demonstrations to follow technique application of layering color. Friday- Sketchbook #10 is due
Week of December 15th
Monday- Students work to complete Market Still Life. As you complete it work on crop and color adjustment of your self-portrait photo to prepare for your assignment. Tuesday/Wednesday- Students follow procedure for drawing 2x2" grid on final paper together with demonstration. Students whose portraits have been printed will begin transparency tracing to prepare for gridding procedure. Thursday/Friday- Students will begin techniques practice on their rough self portraits.

Monday: Work to finish Skateboard Projects. Fill out rubrics, turn in. Tuesday: Handout Concerning Still Life handout. Review "Still Life, Then and Now" slideshow. Discuss significance of Still Life genre through history and its importance to artists as a tool for bettering their skills. Wednesday: Introduce students to Computer procedure for selecting their Market photo, cropping to find strongest area of composition. First group of students follows procedure for cropping.
Demonstrate techniques for beginning Market Photo practice sheet. Demonstrate setup of final Market Photo by use of Graphite transfer onto selected Final Papers. Students begin work on Produce practice. Developing techniques of blending, overlapping and burnishing. Thursday: Review setup of final composition. Monday: Review of Demonstration on Charcoal techniques for Bones Drawing. Using Subtractive Method to lift highlights out of charcoal background using eraser. Demonstrate use of secondary media to add accents, details and darker tones. Tuesday: Review process for applying charcoal to shells drawing. Students continue developing accurate highlights as well as adding texture with charcoal media. Wednesday: Students continue developing accurate highlights as well as adding texture with charcoal media. Monday, Tuesday: Today we will be practicing smooth Directional Shading on our Manikin studies. Developing tones based on a light source to create accurate edges of separation and depth of the forms.
